Postman: Building Trusted Government Communication
Before Postman, government agencies relied on more than 500 different SMS sender IDs to contact citizens. This fragmentation created confusion, made impersonation easier for scammers, and caused important government updates to be ignored. Postman was created to solve this challenge by consolidating communication under a secure, unified, and trusted channel that only government agencies can use.
Key Capabilities
- Secure Messaging: Ensures citizens can clearly identify legitimate communications from government agencies.
- Unified Sender Identity: Reduces confusion by consolidating hundreds of fragmented sender IDs into a recognizable gov.sg channel.
- Scalable Infrastructure: Supports mass communication needs across agencies, proven with millions of messages sent.
- Multi-Channel Support: Delivers messages through both SMS and email for accessibility and reach.
Proven Impact
- 122 agencies onboarded and actively using the platform.
- 181 million messages sent since 2019.
- Recognized as the trusted channel for official communication, especially critical during public health crises.
Involvement
I led a team of designers and engineers to build Postman from 0 to 1 for its first version, and scaled it to more than 100 agencies. The platform supported MOH and MCIS in COVID-19 communications and was instrumental in powering the Homer COVID home quarantine operations.
